OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOME

At the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

  • Manage normal pregnancy, labor, & post-partum period, with adequate

            knowledge of anatomy, physiology   reproductive system.

  • Diagnose high-risk pregnancy, abnormal labour and timely referral of the patient to

            appropriate place.

  • Provide first aid for obstetric emergencies and refer appropriately.
  • Counsel & promote use of contraception.
  • Educate about national programs of maternal and child health and family

            welfare.

  • Diagnose and treat common gynecological problems like Pradar ( leucorrhoea),Artav Dushti( menstrual irregularities,)Sankraman( infections,) displacements  and stree jananang granthi evem Arbud (neoplasms).
  • Understand the implications of medico legal and ethical issues for prasuti tantra and stree roga  practice.
  • Acquire skills to perform certain diagnostic and therapeutic operative procedures.

INTRODUCTION TO SUBJECT

          STRI SHARIRA VIGYANA:  
Etymological origin of the word Stree, Normal and abnormal conditions of Asthisandhi peshi Sahita stree shroni (Soft & Bony Pelvis) and its obstetrical importance, Aartavvaha and Stanyavaha srotamsi.  Tryavarta yoni( Female internal and external genitalia).stree vishishta peshi marmani.                                                                         No. Of  lect. 5

Description of Raja , artava and concept of shukra in stree. CLINICAL TRAINING
OBSTETRIC  SKILLS

To perform independently

  • History taking and examination of antenatal and gynecological cases.
  • Diagnose pregnancy, assess period of gestation, to diagnose onset of labour.
  • To  monitor labour progress, usage of CTG, able to plot partogram,
  • Observation of 10 labour cases and conduction of normal labour.
  • To diagnose abnormalities of labor and decide about the referral of patient.
  • Able to provide first aid for obstetric emergencies.
  • Recognition of post partum complications.
  • Counseling and supervising of breast-feeding.

To assist/performing under supervision

Caesarian section and repair operations

GYNECOLOGICAL SKILLS:

To perform independently    

  • History taking and examination   gynecological cases.

2. Taking vaginal wet smear, high vaginal swab, cervical punch biopsy and Pap  
smear.

  • Copper T insertion, removal and follow up.
  • Practical knowledge of performing sthanika chikitsa.
  • Observation and practical knowledge of performing minor     gynecological procedures.
  • Observation of surgical procedures mentioned above.
  • Identification, uses, demonstration of surgical instruments and method of sterilization.
